Marijuana addiction is often underestimated, yet it can have a significant impact on mental health, motivation, and quality of life. Many individuals begin using marijuana casually or for medical purposes, only to find themselves dependent on its effects. At Desert Willow Wellness in Palm Springs, California, we provide compassionate, evidence-based treatment for marijuana addiction and co-occurring conditions. Our goal is to help you achieve balance, clarity, and confidence in long-term recovery.
Desert Willow Wellness treats adults 18 and older. Our programs are designed specifically for adults seeking structured, therapeutic recovery in a private, supportive setting.
Marijuana, also known as cannabis, contains tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound that alters mood, perception, and cognition. Today’s high-potency THC products are far stronger than in previous decades, increasing the risk of dependence, anxiety, and withdrawal symptoms.
Regular marijuana use can lead to changes in brain function, affecting motivation, concentration, and emotional regulation. Many individuals report symptoms such as irritability, sleep disturbances, loss of interest in activities, or difficulty focusing when trying to quit.
Common signs of marijuana addiction include:
Left untreated, cannabis dependence can interfere with work, school, and relationships while contributing to depression or anxiety.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the average THC concentration in marijuana products has more than quadrupled since the early 1990s, increasing the risk of dependence, anxiety, and cognitive impairment. These potency changes have made modern cannabis use significantly more addictive than in previous decades.
